X’s Grok chatbot is about to launch an upgraded model, Grok-1.5

X.ai, the artificial intelligence startup owned by Elon Musk, has released its latest generative artificial intelligence model, Grok-1.5. Grok-1.5 will provide support for social network X’s Grok chatbot in the near future (“in the coming days,” X.ai wrote in a blog post). A big upgrade – at least judging by the X’s published benchmark results and specs.

According to X.ai, Grok-1.5 benefits from “improved reasoning,” especially when it comes to coding and math-related tasks. The model scored more than double Grok-1’s score on the popular mathematics benchmark MATH, and scored more than ten percentage points higher on the HumanEval test of programming language generation and problem-solving ability.

Of course, it’s difficult to predict how these results will translate into practical use. As we wrote recently , commonly used AI benchmarks—which measure something as esoteric as performance on graduate-level chemistry exam questions—do a poor job of capturing how ordinary people interact with models today.

An improvement is should The amount of context Grok-1.5 can absorb compared to Grok-1 results in observable gains.

Grok-1.5 has 128,000 token contexts – “tokens” referring to bits of raw text (for example, the word “fantastic” is divided into “fan”, “tas” and “tic”). The context or context window refers to the input data (in this case, text) that the model considers before producing the output (more text). Models with smaller context windows tend to forget even recent conversational content, while models with larger context avoid this pitfall – and as an added bonus, have a better grasp of the data stream they receive.

“[Grok-1.5 can] Leveraging information from longer documents,” X.ai wrote in the aforementioned blog post. “In addition, the model can handle longer, more complex prompts while still maintaining its instruction tracking capabilities as the context window expands. “

Historically, what sets X.ai’s Grok models apart from other generative AI models is that they answer questions about topics that other models typically can’t touch, such as conspiracies and more controversial political ideas. The models also answer questions with a “rebellious attitude,” as Musk describes it, using downright rude language if asked.

It’s unclear what changes, if any, Grok-1.5 brings in these areas. X.ai didn’t mention this in the blog post.

X.ai says Grok-1.5 will be available to early testers on X soon and comes with “several new features.” Musk has previously hinted at summarizing posts and replies, as well as suggesting post content; we’ll see if these arrive soon.

Grok-1.5 was released after X.ai open-sourced Grok-1, albeit without the code required to fine-tune or further train it. Most recently, Musk said that more users on $16).
