WhatsApp’s latest update simplifies navigation and adds ‘darker dark mode’

WhatsApp is updating its mobile app to achieve a new, streamlined look while also rolling out a new “darker dark mode,” the company announced on Thursday. The messaging app says it has primarily focused on adding utility to the app over the years, and as the product continues to evolve, so does its design.

After considering more than 35 different colors, the messaging app introduces new color palettes. WhatsApp focuses on darker tones to reduce eye strain in low-light environments. The app’s dark mode, a popular choice for many, is now a bit darker to make it easier to read messages.

WhatsApp has added a native bottom navigation bar on Android to make it easier for users to find what they need quickly. The new navigation bar has been available on iOS for a while, allowing you to quickly view chats, updates, communities, and calls.

For iOS users, WhatsApp is making it easier to send photos and videos with a new attachment layout. Users will now see an expandable tray instead of a full-screen menu, allowing them to more clearly see options when sending media, polls, documents, and more.

WhatsApp has also updated its icon to a circular outline style. Also, the app is refreshing the default background in chats.
