For the second time in just over a month, Meta’s apps, including WhatsApp and possibly Messenger and Instagram, are facing outages and intermittent issues. While it’s rare for a large service operated by Meta to be completely out of service, Meta’s status page details outages for critical business services, including its Ads Manager, Messenger platform, WhatsApp Business API, and more. WhatsApp is also available comfirmed Updates to its X account are interrupted.

“We know some people are having issues right now, and we’re working hard to get everyone back to 100% as quickly as possible,” the company shared at 2:55 p.m. ET.

Users also reported problems accessing Instagram and Messenger, according to social media posts and crowdsourced reporting sites like Downdector. However, the latter does not serve as official confirmation of the outage—only as a sign that it may be underway. Media inquiries to Meta regarding the cause of the outage have not yet been responded to.

The biggest issue seems to be with WhatsApp, although some people are seeing the issue being resolved at the time of writing.

(In our own testing, Meta’s app was loading and we could send messages via WhatsApp, which suggests the outage isn’t global or has been fixed.)

Messenger, Facebook and Instagram have not publicly posted confirmation of any issues through their X accounts.

This isn’t the first time Meta’s applications have experienced large-scale outages this year.

On Super Tuesday in the US (March 5, 2024), Facebook, Instagram and Threads all went down, causing users to encounter a “something went wrong” error message or they were taken to a login page where they were logged out and Unable to log in and recover. The outage lasted several hours before the app came back online. At the time, Meta’s status page also showed issues with products such as Ads Manager.
