Two months after Foamstars was launched, the number of players dropped by 94%

Foamstars, a game developed by Trylogic and Square Enix, has seen a sharp decline in player numbers just two months after its launch.

The game was an exact replica of Nintendo’s popular spray-painting game Splatoon, but it quickly suffered irreparable damage. This is despite the fact that the foam party shooter had more players at launch than the critically acclaimed multiplayer game Helldiver 2, which hit the PlayStation Store at the same time.

As we report, “Standard’s End 2” has seen a surge in concurrent players, making it Sony’s biggest game launch ever on Steam. Foamstars is thematically the polar opposite of Arrowhead Studio’s team-based shooters. Foamstars also shares the same tropes that polarize modern multiplayer gamers, who just want to spend more money to get more content and fewer microtransactions associated with timed releases

Foamstars PSN players are leaving one after another

According to True Trophies, the shooter’s PlayStation player base initially dropped 54% within two weeks of release. True Trophies analyzes game data from more than 3.1 million PlayStation accounts.

That number has now grown to 94.92%, signaling the game’s steady demise as Sony console gamers move on to other games. Still, the game will launch new content called “Mysterious Swing” on April 12, as part of the developer’s commitment to releasing content every six weeks.

Foamstars producer Kosuke Okatani posted information about the update via the PlayStation Blog on April 4.

“Mysterious Swing will feature the latest Foamstar Chloe Noir,” he wrote. “Chloe Noir is a foam star who combines a submachine rifle (which fires foam bullets directly) with the ability to hunt down opponents with her foam beast, Ciel. She blasts all enemies with the utmost precision. “

The update also brings new skill gems for powering up Bubble Stars. These Star Gems can be crafted using resources collected in the game called Power Stones. However, the games have been renamed “Star Gem”, confusing players who were known as “Bubble Gem”. Anyway, they have four slots for these power supplies.

Limited-time events will also be launched alongside new content packs. Here’s their schedule:

  • Ranked Party Tribe-Vibe Schedule: April 12, 6 pm – April 19, 6 pm (PDT)
  • Ranked Party Lonestar Schedule: April 19, 6 pm – May 16, 6 pm (Pacific Daylight Time)

It remains to be seen whether these new additions will stop the multiplayer game from floundering. True Trophies’ analysis predicts that Foamstars will have a no-show party.
