Top 10 programming languages in April 2024 (Figure A), according to the TIOBE Programming Community Index, is:

  1. Python: A general-purpose programming language commonly used for backend development and data science. It is a great programming language for beginners.
  1. C: A programming language commonly used for application and system development. Its syntax is similar to other popular languages, making it a useful branching point for beginner developers.
  1. C++: Very similar to C, with the addition of classes and objects. C++ is great for game and system development. It can be difficult to learn.
  1. Java: A language ideal for artificial intelligence, application and web development. Java requires relatively advanced skills to learn.
  1. C#: C#, used for application, game and web development, is an object- and component-oriented programming language similar to the C and Java language families.
  1. JavaScript: A scripting language commonly used in application, game and web development as well as web servers. JavaScript is simpler and more flexible than Java, which makes it less suitable for some programming tasks, but it is generally easier to learn.
  1. go: Go is a relatively easy language to learn and is ideal for back-end development and the use of APIs and web services.
  1. Visual Basics: A programming language with a drag-and-drop user interface ideal for front-end and full-stack development.
  1. SQL:SQL is specifically used for database programming.
  1. Fordland language: Fortran was first used in the 1950s and was remarkable at the time because it could be written on any system, not just on a specific computer. It is still used today in scientific research, engineering and other cases.

What is the TIOBE Index?

The TIOBE Index is an indicator of which programming languages are most popular in a given month. Its owner, TIOBE Software CEO Paul Jansen, points out that the index is not a reward for the “best” languages, nor is it a list of the programming languages in which the most code is written; Instead, he used popular search engines to determine which languages are most commonly used among professional programmers, programming courses, and third-party vendors.
