Starship Simulator continues to hit big goals with VR and space shuttle

We’ve written about the upcoming Starship Simulator several times since it entered its Kickstarter campaign, and the ambition and desire of the folks at Fleetyard Studios to create the ultimate space sim continues to garner titles that want to see that goal come to fruition. Player support.

Starship Simulator initially hit its funding goal in less than three days and has now surpassed its second stretch goal, which will now bring space shuttles and alien structures into the game’s Early Access version.

“Wow, you did it again,” Fleetyard said in an email to the campaign’s backers. In just 3 days, we hit our next stretch goal of bringing the Space Shuttle and Procedural Outreach Star structures are included in our Early Access build.

These are two important core systems because when combined, they represent the player’s ability to leave their ship and explore entirely new locations on foot. This is a critical step on the road to planetary landing, and if funding continues at the current rate, the possibility of achieving planetary landing looks even greater!

The VR goal has become one of the first stretch goals, and we caught up with developer Dan Govier to discuss the whirlwind few weeks and ask him about what’s next now that the game has been funded, following the Kickstarter shutdown. What is his plan for the day.

“I thought I’d probably sit down and have a nice cup of Earl Gray tea to recuperate,” he told us, before going on to say that after that, we worked hard to map out an early access version of the game and how to make it happen. That.

When we talked about the VR stretch goal, it was funded a few minutes ago, so we asked how this would work, “In the next version we’re going to have basic VR locomotion on board and you’ll be able to do it in the same way you way to “teleport”. It’s been done in other VR games as well. But we hope it ends up being much more than that. We’ve been surprised by how many people have asked about VR and expressed a huge interest in adding it interest”

As of this writing, the Kickstarter appears to be easily passing its next goal of adding Planet Landing, and with 17 days left to go, it may be even further ahead.
