Star Wars Outlaws is going to have one of its iconic characters locked behind a paywall, isn’t it?

Jabba the Hutt – What a great character and one of the most memorable parts of the original Star Wars trilogy (no, not just because of the whole gold bikini thing, thank you). As a kid, I watched Return of the Jedi every day on videotape (well, it might as well have been a bootleg copy shot with a movie theater camera, sorry!) and the interactions between Jabba and Bib Fortuna are the ones that stick out to me the most Profound. . De Jabba Wanga was a phrase that was thrown around a lot when I was growing up.

Presumably, I’m not the only one who has the fondest memories of Jabba and his motley crew, so all these years later when Star Wars Desperados announced that you can actually work for Jabba in the new game When a) it’s awesome, can’t wait and b) they’re always going to make money off of him through the season ticket paywall, aren’t they?

Yes, Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws, a $70-$130 single-player game with a season pass, will include Jabba’s Gambit missions in its season pass, which will cost you extra on top of the base game , but if you want, you’ll get it “for free” by paying over $100 for one of the premium versions of the game. Want Wonga?

“Exclusive Jabba’s Tactics missions will be available to play at launch. While Kai is gathering crews for the Canto Bight heist, Jabba the Hutt himself offers her a job. It turns out that ND-5 years ago owed Jabba the A debt, he came to collect it.”

This is what the introduction to Season Pass explains. This will help sell season tickets. The fact that Jabba’s stuff seems to be locked to those willing/able to pay extra, and someone at the meeting said, “We can totally make them pay extra for this,” is the line that stuck most in the throat.

We live in a land of triple-A games and are told that we don’t own the games we buy, so tactics like this shouldn’t surprise us anymore. Frustratingly, however, $70 buys us next to nothing beyond the basics.

Star Wars: Desperados is set to hit theaters on August 27 – here’s everything else we know so far.
