Pokemon Legends: ZA – Release date, trailer, platforms and everything we know

The launch of a spin-off to the mainline Pokémon Legends game has brought a breath of fresh air to the series, allowing fans to experience something a little different from the usual formula.

Pokemon Legends: ZA is the second Legends game to enter the scene, and like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, aims to provide a new perspective on previously visited areas. Below, we’ll take you through everything you need to know about ZA, including release date, trailer, platforms, and more.

Pokemon Legends: ZA Release Date

Pokémon Legends: ZA’s release date is currently 2025no further details have been revealed yet.

Based on the past Pokémon Legends game Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which launched in January 2022, we expect a similar situation with ZA.

That’s because the holiday slot is typically reserved for mainline Pokemon games, so The Pokemon Company and Nintendo likely don’t want to muddy the waters with a Legends game. Plus, February is Pokemon Day, so why not launch a game around this time?

Pokémon Legends: ZA Trailer

Nintendo surprised us all on Pokémon Day 2024 by releasing a trailer for Pokémon ZA. This is our only sneak peek at the game so far, but we definitely hope to see more later this year.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, here it is:

In the trailer, it doesn’t reveal much about what to expect from the gameplay beyond revealing some of the Pokémon you’ll encounter, but it’s at least sprinkled throughout. Also, if you make it to the end, we’re going to talk about a return mechanic very quickly.

Pokemon Legends: ZA Platform

Nintendo has stated “Pokémon Legends: ZA” will be launched on the Nintendo Switch system This means even your older model from 2017 can play it.

However, for obvious reasons, there’s no word on whether it will also be released on the Switch successor. It’s safe to say that it will indeed be coming to “Switch 2,” possibly even as a launch window title, as there have been numerous reports that the new console will arrive in our hands around that time.

Where is “Pokemon: ZA” set?

Pokémon Legends: ZA is set in the Kalos region, more specifically, the city of Lumois.

This is confirmed by the official Nintendo X account and the aforementioned trailer, which takes you through the futuristic look of the city.

While the fact that a Pokemon game is “entirely” set in a city may seem limiting to some, the city appears to be undergoing a series of redevelopments, so it may be better than Pokemon X & Y “The scale was further expanded when it appeared in “.

If you haven’t played the previous games, the city of Lumois is loosely based on real-world Paris, with plenty of streets to explore. There’s even a Lumoise gym that pays homage to the Eiffel Tower, which is making another appearance at ZA. However, as the Legends formula moves away from gyms and their leaders, it’s unlikely we’ll see the same Clemont we encountered in the original City.

Is there a Mega Evolution in Pokémon ZA?

Yes, Mega Evolutions are indeed coming back After a brief hiatus, Pokémon Legends: ZA.

Mega Evolutions were introduced in Pokemon X & Y, the game that also brought us the Kalos region, so it only makes sense that we see them again in ZA.

If you haven’t played those mainline Pokemon games or Pokemon GO, you might be confused as to what exactly this mechanic is. Well, essentially, it allows you to “evolve” Pokemon in battle, turning them into their super forms. This form greatly enhances their abilities and even gives them different moves. Think of Mega Evolutions as the precursor to Dynamaxing.

The number of Pokemon that can Mega Evolve is limited, and we expect this to be the case in Pokemon Legends: ZA as well. It’s likely the more powerful “Mons” and the third evolution will get the super treatment, so don’t think you’ll take advantage of this mechanic right away.

Is there Zygarde in Pokémon Legends ZA?

Zygarde is one of the three main legendary Pokemon that came with Pokemon X & Y, but unlike previous entries in the series (such as Emerald), no game has focused on its existence.

With its futuristic look and green hue, plus the fact that you’ll be returning to the Kalos region, it’s safe to assume that Zygarde will be thrust into the spotlight as a major ZA legend.

But what we’re not sure about is what form of Zygarde you’ll encounter. There are three forms in X & Y – 10%, 50% and 100%, but we may even see a few others in this new game. All we can do is wait and see what this fascinating saga has in store for us.
