Microsoft is developing an AI chatbot for Xbox

Microsoft is expanding its use into artificial intelligence with its new Xbox AI chatbot. This is during the beta period, where support tasks can be automated and help with customer inquiries and game refunds.

Sources familiar with the plans spoke to The Verge, and the software giant later confirmed the rumor to the publication.

The company has confirmed the existence of its chatbot, with Zhang Haiyan, general manager of Xbox Gaming AI, saying: “We are testing the Xbox Support Virtual Agent, an internal prototype of an animated character that can query Xbox Support topics or text via voice.

“This prototype makes it easier and faster for players to get help with support topics using natural language to pull information from existing Xbox support pages.”

The Xbox chatbot will start by asking players questions like “How can I help you today?” You will then be able to respond to support messages, including those about broken consoles and paid subscription issues.

Microsoft is no stranger to conversational AI bots, as they have their own Azure AI bot service, which is used by companies like Vodafone and PwC to build their own support tools. They also formed a new organization called Microsoft AI to strengthen their artificial intelligence team.

The future of Xbox platform and hardware

This is expected to be part of a broader push by Microsoft to bring AI-driven features to the Xbox platform and developer tools.

Just a few months ago in February, Xbox President Sarah Bond expressed their commitment to bringing more content to fans on the Official Xbox Podcast: “We’ve got a lot more content coming …

“We’re going to be sharing some exciting hardware products this holiday season.

“We’re also investing in our next-generation roadmap. We’re really focused on making the biggest technological leap we’ve ever seen in a hardware generation, one that makes things better for players, creators, and the visions they’re building.”
