Indian girl uses Amazon Alexa to stop monkey attack

A girl in India successfully thwarted a monkey attack with the help of an Amazon Alexa device.

The incident occurred on Thursday (April 11) at a residence in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh. Pankaj Ojha reportedly opened the door by mistake when a large monkey entered his house. The primates entered the double-storey home and destroyed the first-floor living room before crawling into the first-floor kitchen in search of food.

Ojha’s 13-year-old sister-in-law Nikita and his 15-month-old daughter Vamika were playing in the adjoining bedroom when they spotted the monkey walking towards them. Thanks to Nikita’s quick thinking, she managed to scare away the pesky monkey by instructing her Amazon Echo Dot (3rd generation) to imitate a dog’s barking. The intruder was startled, jumped out of the window and disappeared from sight.

The Times of India quoted Nikita as saying: “When the monkey walked in, there were no adults around. I was scared but determined to stop the attack.” I found Alexa sitting on top of the refrigerator in the kitchen and gave it a command. Since everything happens so fast, I’m not sure if this trick works. Fortunately, it did. “

Ohja added: “Most of the electronic devices in my house sync with Alexa. We usually give commands and get things done. But for the first time, it saved my two kids from an impending monkey attack.”

Amazon responds to Alexa monkey rescue

An Amazon spokesperson told ABP Live: “The Basti incident is a great example of how quick thinking combined with easy-to-use technology like Alexa can help at home. Just ask Alexa for music in English, Hindi or Hinglish “

This isn’t the first time Amazon Alexa has come to the rescue. In June 2023, a woman in Hutto, Texas, used the device to call her daughter, who immediately contacted emergency services after her mother collapsed at home. “Without Alexa and without my daughter, I wouldn’t be here today,” Jeannie Dubbel told KVUE.
