Homeland shows off action in bloody new MK1 trailer

Egotistic super-tyrant Homelander joins the ranks of Mortal Kombat 1 in a new moveset trailer.

The notorious villain from The Boys takes center stage, showcasing a unique and brutal set of moves, critical hits and terrifying finishing moves. Game developer Netherealm Studios also captured his iconic grin and love of lactose. He joins classic “Kameo” character Ferra as part of the Mortal Kombat 1 downloadable content (DLC) pack.

Homelander and Ferra join MK1

In the trailer, Fela joins Homelander in a bloody battle against Liu Kang and Kitana. Image Comic’s iconic leader of the Seven uses his signature heat vision to toss his prey into the air before ripping them out of their planes and whipping them through turbines as his finishing move.

Homelander joins Omni-Man, Quan Chi, Peacemaker, Ermac, and Takeda, bringing the number of playable DLC characters to five, out of a rumored 6. The first portion of downloadable content focuses primarily on superheroes, but this isn’t the first time these pages have come to life.

The Joker, Hellboy, and Spawn have all left their mark in previous games in the franchise. Antony Starr’s likeness is used in the game, but the actor will not be reprising his role, responding to a fan query on Instagram when asked if he would be adding his voice talents to this action game, he said “no”. JK Simmons and John Cena reprised their roles respectively, but Starr did not give a specific reason why he was not voicing.

The game’s publisher, Netherrealm Studios, is taking the opportunity to cash in on fans’ loyalty to the iconic character, who fans have come to expect from DLC characters that have appeared in multiple Mortal Kombat games.

Unfortunately, this content is paid and cannot be obtained for free by loyal fans of the series. Mortal Kombat 1 received positive reviews and ranked among the top 10 best-selling games of 2023.

Homeland Invasion will be available to early access players on June 4, with the Kombat Pack becoming available a week later for those who haven’t purchased it. Ferra will join the Kameo roster in late June. Image: Netherrealm Studios.
