EA’s Iron Man game is open world, job listing reveals

The as-yet-untitled Iron Man video game being developed by Electronic Arts’ Motive Studios looks to be an open-world action-adventure game, if job listings are any indication.

Portuguese gaming website Geekinout found the list on EA’s own careers website. The vacancy is for a senior technical artist for the Iron Man team, and the ad directly states that the employee will help “oversee rendering-related aspects of the open-world action-adventure AAA game.”

It goes on to say that the position “requires a high level of artistic sensitivity and strong technical skills; the ability to work with the art and rendering teams to drive the development of new engine features and guide content creation to maximize usable content.”

EA’s job posting states that the team is currently working on two projects, an Iron Man game and the next step in development for Battlefield.

A second job posting had similar wording, but for a senior environment artist. In the requirements section it says “Open world experience is a plus”.

What do we know so far about the new Iron Man game?

After announcing the game and its partnership with Marvel Games in September 2022, Electronic Arts did not reveal details about Iron Man or the specific content of the game. EA described the game in its initial announcement as a “new single-player, third-person, action-adventure” video game developed by Montreal-based Motive.

The development team is led by Oliver Proulx, who has worked on Marvel’s Avengers (2020) for Crystal Dynamics and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2021) for Eidos Montreal. His team includes industry veterans Ian Fraizer, Maëlenn Lumineau and JF Poirier.

The game is said to feature an original narrative that taps into Iron Man’s rich history, immersing players in the power of Marvel’s mainstay character and the genius of his alter ego Tony Stark.

On April 9, Motive general manager Patrick Klaus succinctly singled out the Iron Man game when discussing the studio’s mission to support the development of the Battlefield series: “At the same time, our Development on the Iron Man project continues to move forward…

“The team has made excellent progress this year, reaching an important internal milestone and laying a solid foundation for the journey ahead. Iron Man is a top priority for Motive, and I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve accomplished so far.”
