So you want to play one of the best multiplayer games of recent times, but you don’t want to play with other players. Before we go any further, it’s worth pointing out that Helldivers 2 isn’t “that” game. It’s a team-based co-op where you fight against the environment (in this case, bots and bugs), and many of the tasks you need to complete are best accomplished with other players.
If you’ve played Left 4 Dead and Warhammer 40k: Darktide before (which actually reminded me a lot), then you should be familiar with the gameplay style of fending off hordes of bad guys.
However, if you’re still clinging to some personal sadism, you can actually manage to play Helldivers 2 solo, but we need to let you know where you’re at.
How to play solo in Helldivers 2
So, technically, you can play alone in Helldivers 2. Whether it should, and whether it will be enjoyable, will most likely depend on your level, but be warned, it’s difficult. Levels and missions are mainly designed for multiple players to support each other to complete. If you insist on fighting alone, the best advice we can give you is to stay as far back as possible, take out the cannon fodder as quickly as possible, and then move on to the bigger guys.
Of course, being on your own means you don’t have to wait while you evacuate, so it’s not all news.
To ensure you don’t get stuck in someone else’s lobby, you’ll need to switch matchmaking to private.
You can find this by doing the following.
- Enter options
- Choose pairing privacy
- Change to friends only
It’s set to public by default, but once you switch, the only people who can join you will be your friends, or in your case, our solo adventurers. nobody. Good luck!
