Brave is launching an AI assistant on iPhone and iPad

Brave announced Wednesday that it will bring an artificial intelligence assistant called Leo to iPhone and iPad users. AI assistants allow people to ask questions, summarize pages, create content, and more. Following the launch of the Android and desktop versions of the AI assistant, the iOS version has also been launched.

The iOS version of Leo brings a speech-to-text feature, while the Android version of the AI assistant does not have this feature. With this feature, users can speak content out loud and convert it into text, eliminating the need to type queries or questions. Brave says this additional functionality makes interacting with artificial intelligence easier.

In addition to summarizing a page or video, Leo can answer questions about what he’s read, generate long-form written reports, translate or rewrite pages, create transcriptions of video or audio content, and write code. By offering a built-in AI assistant, Brave hopes users won’t turn to ChatGPT or other similar services.

Leo can use Mixtral 8x7B, Anthropic’s Claude Instant and Meta’s Llama 2 13B. Brave sets Mixtral 8x7B as Leo’s default LLM, but users can choose a different LLM or upgrade to Leo Premium for higher rate limits at $14.99 per month.

Brave isn’t the only browser company to launch an AI assistant; Opera launched an AI assistant called Aria last year. The product, built in partnership with OpenAI, features a chatbot-like interface that allows people to ask questions and get instant responses.

Brave Leo for iOS is now available to all iOS users who update to version 1.63. To access Leo, open your browser, start typing in the address bar, and select “Ask Leo.” Leo is an opt-in feature that can be disabled through the app’s settings.
