Like designing headphones, Apple’s role is a work in progress. The original version of the beta avatar was – Is “nightmare” too strong a word? Subsequent updates made them tastier and more realistic, and Apple said it continues to work on 3D capture.

The company on Tuesday launched the “Space” character for Vision Pro headsets running visionOS 1.1 or later. While the feature was previously limited to chat platforms like FaceTime and Zoom, the new version aims to bring a more collaborative feel to the headset.

space is still start Like FaceTime, but Apple’s proprietary video conferencing platform can now act as a gateway to other apps when combined with SharePlay. From there, users can select the spatial character option, which utilizes the Vision Pro’s onboard sensors to place characters in the room with them.

Spatial audio, meanwhile, goes a step further by placing them at specific points in space relative to the Vision Pro user.

In the video example shared by Apple, two characters flank a window that showcases freeform. All in all, it’s similar to the feeling of people collaborating on a project at an office conference table. However, in this case, the conference table is the user’s home office desk.

Is the effect neat? Yes. Isn’t it scary? Also, yes. Vision Pro users will continue to operate in the uncanny valley for the foreseeable future. This is just the realm of being an early adopter.

In addition to work collaboration, this feature can also be used to watch movies and play games together. It supports up to five users simultaneously.
