Apple to cut 600 jobs after abandoning self-driving car plans

Apple has recently avoided widespread layoffs, unlike other blue-chip companies that have cut hundreds of thousands of jobs since the pandemic hit.

Last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook told CNBC that the company did not envision significant layoffs.

“I think this is a last resort, so large-scale layoffs are not something we’re talking about right now,” he said.

As this development proves, times and circumstances change, but Apple hasn’t been affected by layoffs the way companies like Amazon have slashed their headcount.

Amazon lost 27,000 jobs in 2022 and has continued into this year, with Amazon Web Services announcing a new round of layoffs this week, affecting hundreds of employees.

Elsewhere, Microsoft, eBay and PayPal are said to have cut around 34,000 jobs recently, as companies redirect resources towards artificial intelligence.
